Edward

Sailing Highlights

Edward grew up in Germany and has always been involved in sailing, starting in dinghies on the many lakes surrounding his home town Berlin. Many holidays were spent sailing the Baltic Sea and Scandinavian coasts venturing as far up north as the Norwegian Arctic Lofots.

New Zealand

After graduating from year twelve in Berlin, Edward moved to New Zealand where he was working for the traditional shipwright Marco Scuderi (mcnshipwrights.com) and started his apprenticeship in wooden boatbuilding. New Zealand is where he got started crewing on traditional boats for racing and began crewing on all kind of yachts for deliveries and cruising as well . The first real ocean crossing for Edward was from New Zealand to Australia on a 30footer, took 12 days and really kindled a passion for long passages and the awaiting landfalls.

Professional Highlights

Back in Europe Edward started professional nautical training with a German ship management company, working on merchant vessels operating worldwide. While at sea he simultaneously finished the last parts of his boatbuilding qualification. In march, the apprenticeship as nautical officers assistant will be finished too, just in time to join the crew of S/V Celebrate for their arctic expedition. After that, a 3 year university course awaits in order to gain the full officers license.

Travel/Adventure Highlights

In late 2013 he moved to Australia, volunteering on tall ships as crew and shipwright, then in several wooden boatbuilding yards to acquire more skill, knowledge and experience. A trip which only was supposed to be a yacht relocation from northern Japan down to Hong Kong, ended up becoming one and a half year's sailing most legs of a circumnavigation and back to Europe on several different sailing yachts, seeing many amazing places on the way and meeting hugely interesting people of all sorts of characters.
