Bio

Brian is an Irishman, but was raised between Africa and a beautiful spot in the South West of Ireland called Derrynane. He has a degree in Marine and plant processes engineering, Yacht master, PADI open water dive ticket, STCW and eng1 medical for sea farers. He's received training advanced ships fire fighting, advanced first aid and sea survival training.

Sailing Highlights

During Brian's time in the navy he got to visit 7 countries, 3 tall ships festivals and 2 naval festivals, and in total spent 4 years at sea. Brians' sailing experience is 22,000 nautical miles with the World ARC sailing on a 50ft Jeanneau and an x45 from ireland as far as Mauritius following the trade winds. His sailing highlight apart from the general experience and getting to know some amazing people, would have been sailing into Le Baie de Vierges in Fatu Hiva in French Polynesia.

Professional Highlights

Brian's an ex naval engineering officer, with 8 years served with the Irish Navy, and reached the rank of Sub Lieutenant. Currently he is working in the mines in Western Australia as a Leading Hand in an Iron Ore Crushing company, and supervises other tradesmen in large shutdown maintenance periods. While in New Zealand in 2012 he worked as a machinist, welder, mechanical fitter in a timber mill in New Zealand. I've also worked in vineyard management working with a group that looked after 6 vineyards in the Wairarapa region of NZ. In that time he hiked the great tracks of New Zealand.

Travel/Adventure Highlights

Brian has a keen interest in the outdoors and loves hiking. He also does weightlifting and has played professional rugby in Ireland. In 2010 his team were all Ireland league champions. It goes without saying he loves the sea, he has a keen interest in diving, rowing and sailing. Most of all he loves traveling and meeting different people from around the world, life is about the journey not the destination after all. Brian is looking forward to the upcoming experience with Charlie and Cathy in Celebrate.
